As of COB on March 26, I retired from the Federal workforce (most recently, the Digital Innovation and Design Branch of the Office of Public Affairs of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) after more than 30 years of employment.  (I worked a decade before that as a technical copy editor for journals at a couple of science non-profits.)
Of course, doing so in the time of pandemic is not quite what one had anticipated ... 

I registered the other day.  At 62, diabetic, hypertensive, and a heart patient, I am in group 1C, lowest tier of Group 1.

No schedule yet - they are still working their way through 1B.

CJC Herself definitely has tropes she likes and that reappear in different forms from one book to the next.

The obvious one is "The guy is a damaged woobie, the woman is a dominant mastermind" (together, They Fight Crime!), but as you've just pointed out, there are others.

 

KSR doesn't tend to be my cup of tea.  I dutifully read New York 2140 for the 2018 Hugos and made it past the Gary Stu hero, his manic pixie dream girl, the two kids who might as well have been named Frick and Frack, and the huge info dumps.  I'm not sad I read it, but I will never be tempted to re-read it.

Lordy, was that really 10 years ago?
