Murderbot show

Has anyone else watched this? We finished a two night binge last night. My feelings are mixed. For some reason the books have become my  personal Sanctuary  Moon, so I had very high hopes for the show. It was fun to watch but I guess no visual representation could measure up to my hopes. I kind of felt like the show was not much better than the version of Sanctuary Moon that was depicted in the show, if that makes any sense.

Re: Murderbot show

I enjoyed both the books and the show. It look a few shows to adapt to the cast, as they didn't completely line up with my mental image from the books. The only one I'm iffy on is Pin-Lee, who came across as much more of a legal badass in the books (although maybe that is to come).
I think they did a good job adapting the book to a tv format. Most of the changes are fine, or at least, to me, not objectionable. The inner dialog problem was dealt with as well as possible.

Re: Murderbot show

Yes, I thought the inner dialogue thing and the whole scanning thing were both handled well, and the sets were good, although pretty different from what I had imagined.  Agree re Pin Lee.  Kind of sad to not have Overse.  Gutharin’s  back story and general demeanor seem odd to me, not totally convincing, and the plot changes around him have put me off balance. Also I thought it took them far too long to adjust to SecUnit. Also no way Ratthi would ever refer to him as Seccy.  I am trying to figure out why they made some of the changes they made.
Had you thought that Sanctuary Moon was such a cheesy show? I had thought SecUnit would have had better taste after watching 35,000 hours of media, not to mention all those books he reads.  However, I thought the use of quotes from the show was quite entertaining, especially when the bad guys realized it.
I may be putting too much weight on this experience. But I do love the books and return to them nearly as often as SecUnit returns to Sanctuary Moon, and for the same reasons. So I am probably being hypercritical.

Re: Murderbot show

I also enjoyed it and am pleased it's getting a second season.

I particularly enjoyed the shorter half hour format.  That seems to be a rare treat these days - short punchy episodes that don't drag on too long.

It has been quite a while since I've read any of the books, but it felt pretty faithful to what I do remember.  I might have to schedule a re-read before the next season drops.

It's a strange world.  Let's keep it that way.
