sounds promising, I’ve always liked his stuff. Haven’t read the first one, so there’s a place to start!
It's not a cliffhanger ending and a prologue at the end of this one does nicely resolve a couple of mysteries from the first book Beyond the Hallowed Sky. It's just that there are now some much bigger questions to be answered. So it goes.

Hey! I just saw that Ann Leckie has published a new book! Translation State, it's called. I am currently finishing up Ada Palmer's terra Ignota series - have we discussed these before? - but that will be next on my list.

A new Ann Leckie? Another one for adding on to The Pile then.

I’ve started Translation State, and am enjoying it a lot. Only 78 pages in, so things are just starting.

I just finished Ada Palmer’s Terra Ignota series. Not really a series; 4 volumes, one story. Curious if anyone else here has read it. There is much to admire, but I find myself thinking there is WAY too much in it: war, peace, gender issues, religions of various unusual sorts, space, exploration of the human mind, cannibalism, torture (off screen for the most part), Hobbes, Locke, the Enlightenment as seen through the 2400’s perspective, many languages including Latin and Ancient Greek, the Iliad, the Oddessy, magic, miracles, and so on and so on. It is rich, and all these threads are essential to the story, but maybe its just too too bloated. I dunno. She is a professor at University of Chicago, I think in history and/or philosophy. My first cousin once removed, a young man of 30 or so, who took courses with her in his Master of Liberal Arts course at UChi, recommended the book to me. I am a bit hesitant to discuss it with him, as my feelings are mixed and I think his were wholly admiring.

Thanks for that Kokipy.
Palmer is an author I was aware of but have not yet read anything by. I think that status might endure for a while longer.

Well, it is an amazing work. Surtac I am not quite sure what to think about it. I remember reading the first one some time ago, and either I didn’t like it then enough to keep on, or, more likely since I am a completionist, she hadn’t finished it all. I am not sorry to have pushed through this time. I would enjoy discussing it with someone, but I know you have quite a tower of books tbr.

That is, indeed, sad but true. And sometimes the tower is of such a size that decision paralysis sets in and it is hard to choose the next title to attack. When I'm in such a state an external suggestion such as yours is welcome to help break the logjam. So, off to the kindle store to find the first volume.
