Got in the car this morning to go out, got half a block down the street, and the car felt funny and there was a repetitive ticking noise coming from outside the car when I moved. Okay, time to check....yep, right rear tire has a screw in it, and of course, it can't be patched. I'm not sure if it's the quality of the tires, or what, but I never had this issue with my previous cars. This is like the 5th tire I've had to replace on this car and I've only had the car for 2-1/2 years. I was going to replace all of the tires with a better quality (higher rated) set when these wore out, but if I'm constantly replacing a tire every couple of months, I'll never get to that point.
On a related note, I did take the car over to Walmart, since the regular tire shop is closed on Saturdays (which is usually when this stuff happens!). They can't patch it as it's in that gray area close to the sidewall and they won't touch it. Okay, no problem. No, I don't want a cheap replacement tire, I want the identical tire (although if they're prone to attracting screws, I might want to reconsider). So, they pumped it up again, so I could get home, and I pulled out the jack and the spare doughnut and started to work. I wonder if the people who rotated my tires at the tire store last time have any idea what the torque specifications for the lug nuts of a 2018 Honda CR-V EX happen to be. I looked it up, it's 80 ft-lbs of torque, which is easily achievable with a hand torque wrench. No, they have to use the high powered air wrenches that torque it down to who knows what.
Tried to get on the store's website to sign in for service early Monday morning, but the website takes me to a bunch of other places in say, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri....I live in Ohio. I clicked on the website link and nope, it wouldn't let me change my location. You're in Indiana, because that's where we think you are..... So, I guess I'll make a short trip and see if I can find a sign in sheet to let me set up the appointment. This is getting darned old, you know?

Well, gee, whiz.....it seems the store has a different website than the corporate website indicates. So, I requested an 8:30 Monday morning and a 1:00 Monday afternoon appointment as the alternate.

well, I got a bill from the vascular surgeon, marked FINAL NOTICE!!!! Um, I thought we took care of this in January, when I walked into their office with a whole stack of papers that said, PAID!. Apparently, the young lady who said she "would take care of it." didn't. Now, I've got another stack of papers, from Medicare and from TRICARE (my secondary insurance), both of which say, "We paid." I will take that stack into the doctor's office Monday. TRICARE emphatically states that I owe NOTHING. If the doctor is going to accept that insurance, he has to accept what they're going to pay. I'm sorry that there's a huge write-off, but they know this when it comes to insurance. Medicare says there's a certain amount that the doctor will be paid, and after that, it is NOT the patient's responsibility to pay more, unless there is no secondary insurance or it's not covered by secondary insurance. Since my treatment was medically prescribed by a specialist, the referral was made by TRICARE, then it's covered.

That's par for the course with Doctors offices in the U.S. In any particular area, there are around 5 or 10 major health care providers and another 20 or 30 smaller ones. And each provider has a bunch of different plans. And each plan requires a different set of paperwork.
Most doctors hire specialists just to handle the paperwork. The receptionist doesn't do it. They just leave a note for the people that do. I have stuff like that happen at least once or twice a year because I see about 5 different doctors 2 or 3 times a year each.
I found out that if you have this happens with the same doctor over and over again it generally means that either their person who handles insurance claims doesn't know what they are doing or the Doctor is such a terrible person to deal with that there was a lot of turnover in their staff and employees leave before they really learned the system. My primary doctor before the current one always had new employees being trained every time me or my ex visited over the 5 years he was my PCP. Its not a good sign.

Today marks a momentous occasion: 38 years ago, in Elizabeth City, NC, I said "I do." and left the ranks of bachelorhood. Yesterday was another momentous occasion: 17 years ago yesterday was the last time I saw my wife.
Online!
condolences on the first and congratulations on the second.

Tire: tire store manager says, "We can fix that." $25.
Doctor: "Um, we know there's a problem, it's with our system. We're trying to get the system to resolve it, but we know you've paid."
So, for a Monday, not a bad day, after all.
