Yes, it's interesting.  Nine novels and yet I'm sure he's never come across my radar before.  I might have to check out that first book myself - I'm still waiting for my copy of Dave Hutchison's latest to get here.and I'm loathe to start anything more serious from The Pile before it does arrive.

The description of a “cult classic” makes me wonder. Maybe it’s not especially well written, but with a good plot? Like much old-school science fiction? I will also report back.

Interestingly, now that I know where the author lives, as I started to read, I see that the most important research facility in the book is located just near to his actual location, and the nearest big city, which is being explored after its destruction, is in fact Philadelphia, which is the nearest big city, and which he probably knows well.
