Alliance Ascendant, the third book in the Hinder Stars trilogy is scheduled for November 2025 for hardback and ebook. This is from Locus magazine's Forthcoming Books list.

No cover art online that I can find.

I was wondering what the title would be. Great choice.

Recent reads include Eric Morganstern's The Starless Sea, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab, and Swordheart by the wonderful T. Kingfisher.

They had me when I read that the story is largely set in a fantasitc and endless?? underground library. Superficially, a "portal" fantasy, as one reaches the library via hidden doors.  The structure of is interesting. There is the main story, interleaved by short selections from several books from the library, little vignettes/fables. The relationship of the multiple story lines becomes (somewhat) more clear as the book progresses. A languid sort of read, reminds me somewhat of Piranesi.

In the Invisible Life is Addie LaRue, the main character makes a deal with the result that anyone she meets forgets her almost immediately. Then, she meets someone that remembers her.

And finally Swordheart, T Kingfisher. Sold as '"romantasy", it has love interest that is important to the plot and characters, but not too romancy for an old guy, and all with the delightful Kingfisher twist. I will always read her books as soon as they come out, and unequivocally recommend them, pretty much independent of one's reading preferences. One of the main characters is Zale, lawyer-priest for the Temple of the White Rat: "Zale grinned like a shark that had eaten the cat, the canary, and several innocent bystanders."

No news on the writing front lately. CJ is just about recovered from very unpleasant side effects from one of her meds (one for bone density/strength, which was compromised by chemo).
One hopes life and writing can resume as health stabilizes.

Thanks for the recommendations! I've enjoyed N. K. Jemisin's books this last year -- wonderful world building and complex characters.

Which Jemisin books did you read? My favorite is The Killing Moon + The Shadowed Sun duology, from 2012. I read the most recent "Great Cities" books. Enjoyed them, but struggled at times to get through. If I knew more about NYC I bet the books would be a lot more interesting.

I  just re-read Elizabeth Bear's Ancestral Night, and Machine; they are part 1 and 2 of the White Space trilogy. I thought book 3 was out, but it's due in June. Really enjoyed them, good modern space opera, not very dark. In particular Machine, as it's an homage/update of James White's Hospital Station books, really nicely done.

I also finished Kevin Hearn's Ink & Sigil series, three books set in the Iron Druid universe. Lots of fun, good dugs, and the Iron Druid and Oberon make several appearances. A good light holiday read.

Now working on some Tiptree stories as a change of pace.
