Between Two Lanterns, a memorial place » My wife Kristi » 9/10/2020 9:12 am |
Some of you who I'm friends with on Facebook probably know this, but my wife passed away on the 12th of August. The end went extremely fast. She entered hospice 3 days before she passed. It still feels quite surreal. I took some time off and went to see my new granddaughter, her mother, and my brother, and then my mother. Finally back into a normal routine starting today. My kids are mostly doing very well all things considered and so am I.
Kristi was an amazing woman, brilliantly intelligent and loving. She was a wonderful mother.

My cousin had had a double mastectomy many years ago, but about five years ago they found a tumor on her liver that they believed was a recurrence of the breast cancer. The tumor was initially too large for surgery so she had chemo first. She was treated primarily at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston because her brother is a doctor in that community, but since she lives in Georgia they were able to have most of the chemo delivered at Emory University Hospital. Anyway, after some time the liver mass reduced to the point that it was operable and she has been doing really well ever since. I mention this in case you might have an interest in exploring alternative care options. She received extraordinarily good treatment there. I could find out more if you would be interested.
I appreciate that. We are just starting, but her entire liver is cancer right now. I have no idea how this is going to go, but I assume we have to have some relief from this before anything else can happen. I will contact you if we get to a point where we can explore other options.
Thank you!

Martha Wells just published the first novel length book in this series and it is highly enjoyable. Very funny and action packed. The characterizations are wonderful. It's about a security bot that hacks its controller and tries to make its way without drawing attention to itself and limit interactions with humans as much as possible. That doesn't work out very well, though, as it constantly gets pulled into one adventure after another.
The first four are novellas and are overpriced, but surprisingly turned out to be worth the money.
All Systems Red is the first and won the recent Hugo for the novella category.
Artificial Condition
Rogue Protocol
Exit Strategy
Network Effect is the novel.

It's not on the cord, just the bones. She is taking an injection that strengthens the bones now. I appreciate all the kind thoughts.

From what I understand publishers are going light on editing and editors these days. Seems like they take every opportunity to make a nickle. There is more pressure to submit something that is finely honed.
This is a fascinating topic, though.

Two years ago my wife had a mastectomy. The cancer metastasized and is now in her liver and on her spine and several other bones. Her liver is completely compromised. She was doing P90x and PIYO and walking 6 miles a day 6 days out of 7 just two months ago and now she can barely make it to the living room to lay down on the couch. She just started chemo on Wednesday. Trying to keep hope alive. She is only 52.
I am beside myself.
