The Poul Anderson books with Van Rijn and Falkayn were favourites of mine too.  In fact, I'm wondering how The Trouble Twisters and Satan's World would hold up if I tried a re-read now.  Hmmn.

Great listening to your recollections. That was beautiful bygone era of imagination. Like you, when I was a kid, I believed that I was going to spend my adult life exploring the galaxy. With the space program going like gangbusters in the ‘60s, I was sure there would be a space academy that I would attend after high school. Sometime around junior year of high school, I had a bad crash when I realized that things weren’t moving as quickly as I’d anticipated. Well, at least I still had the books…
