This will probably not be of interest to many here, but it might be to certain of you.
One of my favourite British small presses is having a flash sale of their backlist of signed limited edition hardcover titles in advance of (temporarily?) ceasing sales of hardcovers into the USA because of USA tariff changes imposed on Royal Mail shipments to the US.
NewCon Press are offering lucky dip bundles of five signed limited hardcovers for GBP4 only(plus shipping) until August 25, 2025.

Here's the background from their email to me this morning:[/url]--------------------------------------------------------
Uncertain Times Running an independent publisher is fraught with challenges -- not least the escalating cost of printing books and the escalating cost of shipping them. At the end of this month, a significant change comes into effect which will have a profound impact on our business. To quote from Monday's notification from Royal Mail: Currently, low-value goods and gifts can enter the USA from other countries ‘duty-free’ because of a ‘de minimis’ duties threshold of US$800. The changes mean goods entering the USA from any country, from 29 August 2025 will be subject to tariffs payable to US customs.
Senders in the UK will have to calculate, collect (or account for) duties at the point of sale. The duties are payable to US Customs in advance of items entering the USA.
We understand required duties for UK postal shipments will be based on an item’s value and the country-based tariff (country of manufacture rather than country of shipping). Nobody seems entirely certain how this is going to work, with even Royal Mail using woolly sentences such as 'we understand'. Nobody has yet explained how payments to US customs are to be made, only that goods will not be allowed into the US if they are not paid in advance.
Due to this uncertainty, we are reluctantly suspending all sales of hardbacks to the USA as of 22nd August this year.
Hopefully this is only a temporary measure. It is not something we do lightly, as we have many valued customers in the US with whom we have built up a relationship over a number of years, and this will represent the biggest blow to our business since we lost much of our European market following Brexit. But for now we see no other option.
Please note that paperbacks will not be affected, as we can arrange for these to be printed and distributed within the US.
So, anyone in the USA who has been vacillating over whether to buy this title or that, time is running out, which is one reason we are announcing the giveaway sale now rather than later. Another consequence of our deep delve into the stock room has been a realisation of just how many books we have. Radical steps are needed to prevent the stock from taking over. So... it's time for a ridiculous deal. FIVE SIGNED LIMITED EDITION HARDBACKS WITH A COMBINED COVER PRICE OF BETWEEN £75.00 AND £130.00 FOR JUST £4.00 This is a Lucky Dip. You are welcome to buy as many sets of 5 as you wish. We will not undertake to include or exclude specific titles, but we will guarantee that if you buy more than one set there will be no repeats among them (unless you buy so many that we have no choice - hey, we can hope!).
Stating the obvious, but if you were to order 4 sets, you would receive 20 books with a value of between £300.00 and £520.00 for just £16.00 (plus shipping).
For those who prefer a true lucky dip, we are offering a 'Mixed Genre' selection which will include titles form across our range, for those who prefer a more defined choice, we are offering SF, fantasy, and horror 'dips'.
Mixed Genre
Science Fiction
Fantasy
Dark Fantasy & Horror
These lucky dips will be available until Monday 25th August, but we would ask that our US customers place their orders by Friday the 22nd, to ensure we can deliver them without running foul of the new regulations. ---------------------------------------------------

My understanding is that books are exempt from the tarrifs. But it’s confusing times, and shippers don’t always understand or care about exceptions or nuance.

Confusing indeed, if an organisation like the Royal Mail can't confidently navigate or negotiate the minutiae of the requirements.
Still, as a former professional cynic (ie experienced IT practitioner) I suspect the uncertainty is deliberate. Create maximal FUD in all the markets as a distraction from other events.
(FUD is fear, uncertainty and doubt for those unfamiliar with the term.)
