Me too, as it happens.

Having thought about it for a few days now, I think Harkaway's book is at least as good as its predecessor, and possibly better in some ways.  There's still plenty of the 'down these mean streets jaded PI ' vibe to it but it has a bit more depth and complexity in the contemplation of what time means to baseline humans and how it manifests to Titans.  I still would highly recommend both of these books.

And I noticed that the BSFA Award winners have been announced.  The only one I've read so far is Adrian Tchaikovsky's novella Saturation Point, which I thought was excellent and am also happy to recommend.

Re: What have you been reading lately?

I'm interrupting my re-read of Pterry's Discworld books because the new Joe Abercrombie fantasy (entitled The Devils) has just arrived.

I'll get back to you shortly.

Re: What have you been reading lately?

Reading Future's Edge by Gareth Powell, and came across this lovely easter egg, discussing the ship Crisis Actor's beat-up state:

"Whose idea was it to paint her with yellow and black stripes?"
"Some creative soul at Foss Repair Station.  Apparently they were all out of battleship gray" ....

And an observation, the greatest legacy of Iain M Banks is that all spaceships from hence forth will have Culture-style names. A variation (but it still counts!) is in Elizabeth Moon's White Space books, were ships are named by poets, such as I Rise From Ancestral Night, I Race To Seek the Living (a medical vessel), and Big Rock Candy Mountain.

That's brilliant.  I wonder how many people not of my generation will get that reference?
